Due to certain incidents, Mom decided to longer use Tumblr. We have now moved on to WordPress which gives us a wider range of options. Please update your bookmarks and visit us at our new home!
But we need your help! Kicho is really sick and needs surgery. The vet says she’s going through heart failure. We have more details on our new blog at: http://www.puppypiranha.com. Please help us save Kicho and spread the word. Our family would be forever grateful.
Today, the FedEx guy showed up and surprised Sumo & Kicho with a box of goodies from Grandma & family back in PA. Sumo was so happy, he could barely contain his excitement… he tried his best to sit there patiently while crying and telling me to open up the box right away.
Here’s several videos of them playing with their new toys! They love it! Thanks to their Grandma, Grandpa & Aunties! Kisses!
This puppy is ridiculous. He melts my heart every time. Look at that face! Earlier this morning, I received a FedEx package and he started jumping on the box, crying, pawin’ at it. Apparently, he thought it was a box of goodies for him. Back when I was fully employed, I would purchase toys for him all the time… and I haven’t been able to because finances have been tight… :-( But just seeing him cry and get so excited over it… Ok, time to go shopping!
Hmmmm, yeah… it looks like he suckered me again. He really has got me so well trained. Sigh…
Sumo here! My human Mom wanted to started a new site to include Kicho in the title and also start a new account so that there’s no confusion when we follow other pet bloggers since Mom has us under her own personal account. Unfortunately, Tumblr doesn’t have a way to change the primary blog, or choose a specific account when following others so here we are! This makes it much easier for us. Plus, I like having more control over my own blog since Mom has been kind of hectic at work and has been a bit lazy when it comes to updating… so I’m officially taking over.
Sumo and I played outside on the deck. I stuffed a toy through his tail and normally it would drive him crazy but he was actually ok with it this time around. It stayed there until he had to scratch and shake it off. What a dorky puppy. <3
We went with Amie, Tomo and their Mom, Gloria, to Liberty State Park today! Amie & Tomo were modeling for photos while Sumo & Kicho watched and played in the background.
The park was pretty big and the views were amazing! Not to mention, the weather was perfect!
Sumo!
He’s gained an considerable amount of chunkiness. It’s all my fault. I always fall for his charm when he’s begging for num nums. I just can’t say no to the face he makes! Argg!
Kicho!
She’s doing great! Still on her heart medication and will have to stay on it for the rest of her life. Even still, she’s always energetic, always smiling and always playful. She will continue her regular checkups every few months to make sure her heart condition doesn’t worsen. We were really concerned earlier this year when we found out how bad it had gotten in just a year. She was walking very slow, sluggish, always coughing… but now that she’s on her new meds, she’s been responding very well to it. She’s a tough girl! Also… super sweet and sooooo well behaved. We love her dearly. She keeps Sumo in check. ;-)
Amie & Tomo!
Amie is such a beauty! She loves the camera and we all think she should take up modeling full time. What a face! Also, I think she’s finally warming up to Sumo a bit. Perhaps, there’s love in the future?
Tomo’s a complete goofball and we love him so much for it. Once off leash, he does the Shiba 500 and is full of personality! He loves rolling in yucky stuff and snatching num nums out of other people’s bags. I made the mistake of leaving my bag on the grass and this little guy calmly walks over, moves the flap to expose the contents inside, then proceeds to snag the bag of chicken and tries to bolt away! Hahaha, we couldn’t help but laugh. I wish I had a video of it.
This is of Sumo & Amie. Sumo LOVES Amie. I caught him trying to sneak a few kisses but she wasn’t feeling it and tried to bite his face off. It’s so adorable watching those two interact with each other. ;-)
On the way home… everyone was poop’d out! Me included, I had only 3-4 hours of sleep the night before and passed out as soon as I got home for about 4-5 hours. Seriously, I’m so out of shape! :-\
We took little Kicho to the vet yesterday to run some tests. The doctor said the Lasix did the job of removing the fluid in her lungs. They also tested her kidney and liver to make sure they were still healthy in order for her to continue her heart medication, and all is good! There’s really nothing that can be done for her heart disease. They increased her dosage in the hopes that she responds to it better. She’s going to be on heart medication for the rest of her life. Lifespan is undetermined at the moment. We can only be hopeful. We have to monitor her more closely and will have to continue to take her in to run the usual tests every 3 months. It’s been expensive but she’s totally worth it. It’ll be an ongoing thing. Thank you to all that have given us their support and all the well wishes. We’ll do everything in our power to provide her a long, healthy, and happy life.
Here are some photos I took half hour ago during our little walk. Kicho is the sweetest puppy ever.
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted any photos. Here’s some randoms from today.
Kicho was being really cute and sleepy. We’re supposed to take her back to the doctor here in the next few days. They told us we have to finish her meds first and so we still have about 4-5 days left of pills. I’ll update more on her condition once I have results. She looks so sad in these photos but I think she was just sleepy. She passed out soon afterward. We love her lots!
Sumo has been a really good boy! So well behaved. I think we’re beginning to understand each other. I’ve been practicing all kinds of words with him so he knows what I mean when I say them now. He still gets really protective and barks at people when they walk too close towards me and pretends to chomp any hands that try to pet him without his permission. But otherwise, he’s really well behaved. Well… for today at least. Here are some snap shots of him on our walk today.
Kicho has been taking two types of meds- one is to help get rid of the fluid build-up in her lungs, and the other is for her heart disease. Since her last vet visit, we were told that she needs to take it for three weeks. Two and a half weeks into it, we’ll have to take her back to the vet for x-rays and a blood test to determine how well she is responding to the meds. We hope she will be ok. I don’t know what we’ll do if the vet tells us that the meds are not working or if she might need surgery. :’-( I hope it doesn’t come to that.
Kicho, our tiny (yet tough) black and tan Shiba Inu has been diagnosed with heart disease. At 1 year, we were told that she had a level 4 out of 6 heart murmur, and that she would need treatment for her whole life. Today, Kicho had her 2 year echo-cardiogram, and the results were not good. Her murmur has progressed to heart disease (enlarged heart), and fluid has started to build up in her lungs. Treatment for this condition needs to begin right away, and unfortunately Alice and I were financially unprepared for this diagnosis.
Kicho is a very happy, extremely sweet, and playful puppy; and her cousin Sumo is very attached to her. Alice and I are humbly asking the Shiba loving community for short term help in paying for Kicho’s vet bills, so that she can get the immediate care she deserves, and live a long and happy life. I’m sorry to say that we didn’t expect this sudden expense, and we absolutely cannot consider giving her up.
To donate, please use the button on the right. We will absolutely not keep any profits. This is strictly for Kicho’s medical bills. Our family is forever grateful.

Hi, my name is Sumo and I'm a red Shiba Inu. I like to drive my parents crazy by destroying everything. The curtains, shoelaces, couches, cables, dressers, drywall, hardwood floors (Oh, definitely the hardwoods), remote controls, and absolutely anything I can chomp on. I also love to scratch the heck out of everything. I'm an artist. I've tried to tell my parents but they don't seem to understand nor appreciate the things that I do. I make my work of art on the doors, cabinets, mirrors, and pretty much anything I can lay my paws on.
Born: February 9, 2008 Breed: Black & Tan Female Shiba Inu Name (Nicknames):Kicho, Kichi, Keech, Little Bear Age: 2 Years 8 Months Weight: 14.1 lbs
I am a new addition to our family. I arrived on March 14, 2009. I am a bit of a goody-goody and always tell on Sumo when he's doing something bad but that never stops him from trying to get away with it. Unfortunately, I do have heart disease but I'm hanging tough and always full of energy and constantly bothering Sumo when he is trying to sleep. I like being scratched by the base of my tail and lots of treats is a big plus! ;-) Oh I like to eat fuzz balls and ummmm... sniff some poo. But only sniff! I don't roll with it.
